Volunteers

We are fortunate to have a spectacular team of volunteers who keep the Postdoc Centre open and running. For those who left us for good, we want you to know that we appreciate everything you have done for the Centre.

"You are gone but not forgotten!”

Alumni Project Officer

"Hello my name is Jindra. I had been living in Cambridge for almost a year when I started volunteering at the Postdoc Centre. Before I moved I had two very good jobs in the Czech Republic. Although I enjoy taking care of my children and husband, I missed my colleauges, friends and feeling useful. I have found a new sense of purpose in my volunteering role at the OPdA".

Mrs Veronica Egorova
Committees Project coordinator

Hello my name is Veronica, I have been volunteering at the OPdA since 2014. I was introduced to the OPdA by Genevieve, who works with Cambridge Connect. Straight away I realised the important job the OPdA does for postdocs and I was happy to give my time to help them. I now work for one and half days paid running the Getting Connected Event series which welcomes new Postdocs to Cambridge, but I still support the Committees Project as I find it very stimulating and good fun. Volunteering at the OPdA has given me lots of opportunities and the chance to learn new skills.

Dr Huaining Hu
Information Coordinator

I was a postdoc in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Bath before I moved to Cambridge. Volunteering at OPdA is a great opportunity for me to balance family and work. I have developed office administrative skills in a relaxing and friendly environment, I feel connected to the other volunteers and find it easy to collaborate with everyone.

Dr Genevieve Guetemme
Volunteer Corporate Manager

I partake in a number of different volunteering roles at the Postdoc Centre. I chair and developed a group called ‘Cambridge Connect’, which sits within “Newcomers and visiting scholars’ (NVS). Cambridge Connect encourages the free exchange of ideas, with a specific focus on how to transfer skills from the voluntary to job sector.

For the OPdA I identify potential new volunteers and help with the day to day running of the OPdA office. Recently I reached an agreement with the Metro Bank. They now offer support and advice to new Postdocs when openning a bank account.

Ms Srikari M
Information Officer

I was a Process engineer in Oil & gas industry for 3 years before I moved to Cambridge. Volunteering at OPdA is a wonderful opportunity that helped me to get established within the Cambridge environment. It's fun to work at "The Basement" with other teammates who are all very talented and keen to build their careers. I am currently involved in the daily administrative activies and event co-ordination among other things.

I am a System Engineer from Venezuela. Until last year I was working at the University of Los Andes (ULA) where I was involved in the development of projects related to IT environments, open access and institutional repositories. I am very pleased that I can join the OPdA’s volunteering team and I hope to make a positive contribution as well as learn from this great organisation.
