Postdocs: WOW wants you!

last modified Oct 25, 2016 04:57 PM
The Women of the World festival Cambridge is looking for postdocs to be involved in panel discussions or give short presentations at WOW Cambridge 2017 to share their research, experience or ideas.

WOW - Women of the World is a festival of talks, debates, music, film, comedy, performance and conversations that celebrate the talents of women and girls from all walks of life and all parts of the world. WOW asks what obstacles exist that prevent women from realising their potential and debates how to make progress.

The organisers are looking for researchers and academics who are working on topics relating to gender equality, who could either give a short presentation (10-15 minutes maximum), or take part in a broad panel discussion at WOW Cambridge 2017.

They are currently open to ideas for topics - the only requirements are that sessions and talks must be feminist, accessible and bold! The aim is to tackle and discuss subjects that are controversial, challenging, topical, interesting - and fun. Some ideas already are sports, women in science, representations of women, conflict/sexual violence, leadership, and masculinity.

If you are interested in getting involved to share your research, experience or ideas, get in touch.

The festival is full of great stories from women and girls who are breaking the mould in science, enterprise, law, the arts, health, activism, education, politics, sport, fashion, finance and family life. There are platforms for women of all ages to have their say and men and boys who are trying to build gender equality at work and in the home.

There are also opportunities to be a mentor or be mentored in WOW speed mentoring sessions within the festival.

WOW Fringe events will take place from 25th February - 3rd March 2017 across various locations in Cambridge leading up to the main festival. The main day of WOW events will take place on Saturday 4th March at Cambridge Junction.

If you would like to get involved or find out more, come along to one of the October 'Think-ins' - planning sessions that help gather ideas for events and topics to be included in the WOW Cambridge Festival - more details can be found here.

Alternatively, you can email to discuss ideas and events that you'd like to be involved with - ideas should be raised before the end of Michaelmas Term.
