Entrepreneurship

HEAPP

The Higher Education and Enterprise Alliance for Entrepreneurial Postdoc Pathways is a pan-European partnership between universities and industry, which aims to encourage entrepreneurial activities and an innovative approach to postdocs' endeavours both within and outside academia.

Setting up a structured sustainable pathway, starting with the basics of entrepreneurship, will enhance career support, stimulate interactions between postdocs and enterprises, encourage and promote self-development, and empower postdocs to better exploit their knowledge and skills.

Entrepreneurial Postdocs of Cambridge (EPOC)

EPOC is a club founded by postdocs with support from the OPdA, Cambridge Enterprise and Cambridge Judge Business School.

They run regular events and initiatives to create awareness of entrepreneurial opportunities and foster a multidisciplinary network of entrepreneurial postdocs within the University.

Together with Cambridge Enterprise, they also hold an annual Postdoc Business Plan Competition.

Former speakers have included: GV (formerly Google Ventures), BP, IndieBio, AstraZeneca, and local crowdfunding organisations.

Other Support

There are numerous organisations around the University that can offer various types of support for entrepreneurial activities and entrepreneurially minded postdocs. You can find a comprehensive list on the Cambridge University Enterprise Network website.

Of particular note for postdocs:

Cambridge Enterprise – in addition to their support for academics wishing to commercialise their research, they also hold events and training specifically aimed at postdocs, and, together with EPOC, an annual Postdoc Business Plan Competition.

Cambridge Judge Business School – in addition to their free Enterprise Tuesdays talks which are popular with postdocs, they often offer free or discounted places via the OPdA for postdocs on their entrepreneurial programmes.

Many of the Colleges and departments have enterprise competitions, awards, and/or funding, including:
