Researcher Development Pitch Competition

Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPdA), Departmental Postdoc Committee Chairs Network (DPCCN) and Postdocs of Cambridge Society (PdOC) are pleased to launch the first Researcher Development Pitch Competition, with Researcher Development Programme and Postdoc Careers Service.

The Researcher Development Pitch Competition is your chance to co-create and co-deliver the future of postdoc support in Cambridge. The Competition enables you to utilise your creative talents and your expertise in the issues affecting postdocs.

We’re looking for great ideas for new training workshops or events, but also asking you to think more broadly and innovatively too: the door is open for designing fresh ways of delivering Researcher Development, new resources or tools, innovative programmes or platforms for opportunities - not just what is currently delivered Cambridge, but the creative ways it could be adapted, expanded, or renewed in order to make a big impact on the postdoc community.

There are many possible themes to consider: creativity and idea generation, research communication and writing, entrepreneurship and social impact, or career development within and beyond academia. DPCCN meets once a term and discusses needs and priorities identified within the department postdoc committees. Originally, thirteen needs were put together but have since been reviewed, adding the fourteenth. The needs and priorities of the postdoc community may link with RD themes in your ideas. We encourage you to think about the identified needs and how you may able to help address these in your idea.

Collaborative work between DPCCN, PdOC and OPdA, with other postdoc groups and university services, has proved to be a great way to make an impact on the Cambridge postdoc experience. Whilst thinking about your ideas for this competition, also think about how you might be able to collaborate with other postdoc groups in departments and colleges or partner institutions.

On Monday 14th January at 18:30 in Postdoc Centre @ Mill Lane, PdOC will be hosting an after work session to accelerate ideas, brainstorm for other ideas, identify gaps in current offerings and future needs for postdocs. Providing the opportunity to receive peer feedback, meet others, possibly join a team and start or refine your expression of interest. Please register here

Expressions of interest should be emailed by 21 January 2019 to Please email if you have any questions.
