The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs looks after postdocs, their partners and families before they arrive in Cambridge until after they have left. We have a dedicated team of staff and volunteers to help you settle into your new life and make the most of your time here. We offer support and advice for personal as well as professional problems and everything in-between!

Coming up in the New Year we have Mandatory Induction Events for all new postdocs, talks from key figures at the Wellcome Trust and an Industry Forum with Schlumberger.

You can find out more about these events and many more on our website.

Are we missing something? What would YOU like from the Postdoc Centre? We’d love to hear from you! Please click here to leave your feedback.

If you haven’t visited us yet we are located in the Postdoc Centre 16 Mill Lane. We offer FREE meeting rooms, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Click here to book.

The Postdoc Centre co-locates the PdOC Society, NVS (Newcomers and Visiting Scholars) and College Affiliations, which offer social and networking events and college affiliation opportunities.

As some of you may already know our Director, Prof Chris Abell will be taking up his new role as PVC for Research from January 2016, although he will retain oversight of the OPdA as PVC. While we are very sad to see him go we are delighted to announce that Dr Rob Wallach has agreed to take up the post as Director of the OPdA. Dr Wallach has a wealth of experience working with postdocs and was the key driving force behind the formation of the PdOC Society almost 13 years ago. Dr Wallach will bring a great energy and enthusiasm to the OPdA and help drive our vision for the future.

The PdOC Society is your Society, run by postdocs for postdocs.

What are your pension options if you want to leave academia and/or the UK? PdOC in collaboration with Sue Curryer, Head of the Pensions Office answered these questions and many more at a recent PdOC event. You can access the presentation and answers to these questions here.

Are you looking for a College affiliation? PdOC offers a useful guide that outlines the types of College Affiliation opportunities in Cambridge. The guide includes a listing of affiliation types from each College and links to the current vacancies. The guide is available here.

A full listing of current events can be found on the PdOC website.

Amy is a Visiting Industrial Fellow and the i-Teams Programme Director at Cambridge University. She is a serial entrepreneur who has held senior sales, marketing and business development roles in both start-ups and multinational companies, and now focuses on turning university research into commercial success.

During this postdoc-specific event Amy will highlight the different options available to those looking to commercialise their research or ideas, discussing the key steps (and pitfalls) in the spin-out and start-up processes.
