Staff & Alumni Benefits

Staff

The full list of benefits for all employees at the University is available here. But some of the most pertinent ones to your life in Cambridge as a postdoc may be the following.

Families

The University Childcare Office operates two workplace nurseries, a holiday playscheme, and provides information about schools, parental leave, and financial support to help with childcare costs.

The University has launched an initiative with the organisation My Family Care, which delivers family-friendly emergency back-up care and will give employees access to a network of child, adult and eldercare across the country at short notice.

Transport

The University offers a cycle to work scheme to help employees purchase a bike from a local shop. A number of local cycle shops also offer discounts to University employees – find a full list of participating retailers here.

More information about bike safety, security, and bike parking in Cambridge can be found here.

There are also several car schemes, travel to work loans and discounts on bus and train tickets available – find full details here.

Discounts

University employees receive discounts at over 50 companies, including:

  • Apple
  • Premier Travel Agency
  • Clothing outlets
  • Local restaurants
  • Gyms
  • Moving & storage companies
  • Financial & legal services
  • Tourist attractions

Find the full list here.

Alumni

The OPdA and Cambridge University Development and Alumni Relations (CUDAR) are delighted to be able to extend a number of University alumni benefits to postdocs. To qualify, you need to have been in a postdoctoral research position for at least one year. Even if you plan to remain as a postdoc at the University beyond this year, you are still welcome to register for alumni benefits.

If you are/were employed by the University, your details will be forwarded on to CUDAR. However, we would strongly encourage you to update your details on Employee Self Service to ensure you can start to receive these benefits as soon as possible.

Once you are about to leave the University, you will be contacted directly by CUDAR. You will have the opportunity to opt-out of the scheme.

In due course, you should receive a welcome letter or email from CUDAR and start to receive the alumni e-newsletter and e-CAM, as well as details of how to register for your Cantab.net email.

To view a full list of benefits which are available to you, please visit the Cambridge Alumni website.

If you have any queries regarding registration to the alumni scheme or benefits, please contact .
