Postdoc Academy

Postdoctoral Society of Cambridge (PdOC)

PdOC is the University society for all postdoctoral research staff and Junior Research Fellows (JRFs) at Cambridge. It is run by postdocs, for postdocs.

They organise a regular schedule of social events and provide support to fellow postdocs. All Cambridge postdocs are welcome to join and there is no membership fee.

University Clubs and Societies

Just like any member of staff, postdocs are entitled to join many of the incredible Cambridge University societies and sports clubs.

Some may be restricted to students, but many are open to staff as well.

Colleges also have their own societies and sports clubs, some of which may be open to you even if you are not affiliated with that College.

Staff Diversity Networks

Diversity Networks help the University to progress equality by providing a safe space to raise and discuss issues, contributing to policy, and organising social events.

The main diversity networks open to staff are:

  • Race Equality Network
  • LGBTQ+ Network
  • Disabled Staff Network
  • Supporting Parents and Carers at Cambridge

You will also find smaller networks local to specific departments, such as Women in Science, Engineering and Technology Initiative, women@computerlab, Queer in Chemistry, and Chemistry Gender Equality.

College Affiliations

Many postdocs value a formal attachment to one of Cambridge's Colleges.

These opportunities provide additional networking benefits to postdocs who already have a research contract with the University.

You can find details of current opportunities here.

Newcomers and Visiting Scholars (NVS)

NVS is a volunteer group that welcomes all those who are new to the University, as well as their families.

They organise weekly activity groups and social meetings, which include English Language Conversation and activities for children.
